Statement of purpose
I am Jindou chen and graduated from Electrical Engineering Department of Xidian University, a institution of higher learning known for electricity. Right now, I am graduate pathway program student in George Mason University.
My interest in electrical engineering started during my high school. It was the time when electronic technology had great influences on the lives of people in China. Smartphone and computer were becoming increasingly popular and people almost hardly live without those electronics. And they also triggered my strong curiosity about their structure and function. Therefore, electrical engineering was my first choice for my undergraduate discipline. After the College Entrance Examination, I was lucky to be admitted into the Department of Electrical Engineering in Xidian University, an excellent university with great strength in electronics and communication in China. At the beginning of college study in this field, I feel it is more difficult and complicated than imagining, especially when I took analog electronics and digital signal processing. Even though those are fundamental courses, complex circuits and random signals still make me into struggle. I realized I was experiencing the tough period and academic success is usually determined by persistence and diligence. Therefore, I tried my best to learn fundamental theories and knowledge. As a result, under the encouragement of friends and instruction of teachers, I got high scores (96 for analog electronics and 93 for digital signal processing) and rebuilt my confidence. The undergraduate courses in Electrical engineering in Xidian University instructed me into a wide range of this field. Various courses like Radio Frequency Circuit and Communication Theory provided deeper and complicated theory concepts of electrical engineering. After my four-year study in Xidian University, I am willing to continue study in this discipline because I could deal with the future challenges and I believe I already have obtained the necessary theoretical knowledge for future studies. My undergraduate studies already focus on the signal processing of electronics. A master degree in electrical engineering with signal processing as my major is the next logical step.
When I was working on my graduation project, professor Zhai, associate professor of Xidian University, advised me that if I want more professional knowledge and get higher technology information, I should proceed on master degree and even PhD because fundamental knowledge provided by undergraduate school is insufficient for the newest technology. Electrical engineering is a very large discipline and the modern industries of electronics is upgrading very quickly so that getting most advanced technology is very important. Therefore, in order to catch up with the trending and attain more successful career, I decided to pursue master degree firmly.
After I finished my bachelor degree, I took part in the pathway program in INTO MASON. Here, I noticed the newest education style and met excellent faculties and professors. And there are advanced research devices which impressed me. At that time, I realized American education system indeed stands out through whole world. Under this situation, I am sure my talents will be put into optimal use.
According to my current experiences, I’d like to choose Signal Processing as my specialization area. The subject of research which interests me very much is adaptive signal processing, which is important concept of modern communication. Coding theory is another course which arouses my interest. There is a great deal of flexibility in the program, and I am expected to work with my faculty advisor to design a specific program of study that meets my professional needs. I think based on my undergraduate knowledge and my effort, I could finish master degree.
China is a developing country with an immense potential of electrical technology. And communications and signal processing is becoming more important. Thus there are enormous opportunities for me to achieve career success in China. My career goal is working in the leading company in electrical industry, such as Huawei Company, and developing the latest electronic devices. Therefore, when I finish my master degree, I will come back China to find the most suitable job, work in my dream company and realize my career goal in electrical field. I firmly believe a US master’s degree will help me go further in the field of electrical engineering and facilitate my future career in China.
